Australia Day - Tastes of the Balonne- Riversands Long Table

We presented a 5 course dinner showcasing on platters the delicious food and wine we grow in the region including beef, beef jerky, lamb, kangaroo, onions, garlic, carrots, figs & table grapes.Our wineswere paired with each course including our sparklings, sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, shiraz, merlot and golden liqueur muscat.”

The Atmopshere

“A long table down the vines that produce the fruit lit up with fairy lights under the stars of the southern cross has a special ambience. Jazz music fromWhen Sonny Getz Blueadded the spice. And what better day to celebrate the food and wine we harvest in a fun way than on Australia Day!”

“Food presented at the evening had to be branded and commercially available. Respective suppliers presented insights into their businesses and distribution channels including Betty Mickelburrow fromWaroo Game Meats at Surat, Jim & Cathie Tanner fromJim’s Jerkyat Toowoomba, Bec Beisell fromMaranoa Meats at Roma, Andrew Moon fromMoonrocksand Ian Brimblecombe as our local fig supplier.”

Evening Events

“Our evening started with some grape stomping fun with Robyn Fuhrmiester as judge! We line up 4 couples with one stomping black muscat grapes who sieve juice into a cup which their partner must drink! The winning couple received a bottle of wine!”

“Food was prepared by Mitchell chef Sue Alm with Ricky from theCobb & Coassisting with the lamb and Tony at theAustralia Hotelpreparing the potato bake. Trent from the bakery made some delicious cobb loaves dressed in fennel.”

“Trish ran an Australia Day quiz which created plenty of friendly debate such as when was the town of St George gazetted?”

“A courtesy bus driven by Sno Harm brought guests to and from the event. A lot of work goes into presenting these events but the end result was well received by guests. I want to thank our great staff and suppliers. Also our chef Sue Alm and partner Adrian from Mitchell, their helpers from Surat and our local chefs at theCobb & Aussie Hotelsand Trent from theSt George Bakery.”

“Net proceeds were donated toSt George Meals on Wheelsrepresented by Robyn Fuhrmiester to assist purchase new hot box eskies for food deliveries.”

Australia Day 2021

“We will build on our experience to grow the event on Australia Day 2021. In particular we will be chasing new regionally branded foods to present. I would like to see some food bloggers and city based chefs attend Tastes of Balonne Long Table in 2021.”
