Diary of a Traveller

"What's delaying you?" asks Gillian. This plucky traveller, along with her husband Graham (of no fixed abode) and their motorhome are one of the many travellers exploring the West post floods.

"Last year we followed the floodwater downstream about a month after. It was so green! So we thought we'd do the same again this year," says Graham.it's more than just wine at riversands
The floodwater has long receded in towns like St George in SW Queensland, but it seems the flow of customers has almost stopped as well.

"Well why wouldn't we go?" asks Graham. "There's not much evidence of flooding with the landscape bouncing back so quickly. Some people seem to have a fascination with the coast, but the West and Outback seem to have so much to offer. Every town has its own character about it and we find country people are very friendly."

There's something special about St George though. "St George is the only town in Queensland we've revisited," Gillian says over a sip of coffee at their favourite local haunt - Riversands Wines.
As for taking Premier Anna Blighs advice and supporting flooded communities "we spend 3 or 4 days in each place. Staying those extra couple of days really helps the community. We consciously spend time in flood affected towns," says Graham.

"Everyone should see what the floods have resulted in. Come and see how the people have been impacted," Graham concludes.
