St George P&Cs receive cotton vineyard tour donation
St George Cotton Growers Scott Armstrong and Ian Todd representing cotton growers with Sandra Lee from the St George Visitor Information Centre handing over a $2,100 cheque to Alex Benn and Rochelle Ferguson representing St Pats, State & High School P&Cs.
Tour organiser David Blacket said "The cheque represents proceeds from the Cotton-Vineyard tours which are run weekly during the tourist season from May to September. Seven local cotton growers donate their time to host the tours which aim to showcase the St George Irrigation Industry."
"I would also like to acknowledge the great contribution from the VIC staff who promote the tours and take bookings. Also Harry North & Sno Harm who provide the bus service."
"In addition to a visit to a cotton farm, the tours cover Moonrock onion operations ending with a visit to Riversands Vineyards for a vineyard tour, wine tasting and lunch. The tours aim to provide to the public our side of the story on irrigated agriculture in a positive and entertaining way. Locals are always welcome to participate in the tours."
