National Picnic Day is fast approaching on the23rd April– the perfect occasion to pick up your favourite wines, pack a yummy lunch and head out to enjoy the last of this summer sun! We have collected a few of our favourite meals to prepare for a picnic, as well as the perfect wine pairing for each.

Charcuterie board

Enjoy a grazing board full of yummy nibbles that will be sure to delight everyone. Here are some of our favourite things to add on a charcuterie board:

• Deli meats
• Various cheeses 
• Olives 
• Fruit
• Crackers 
• Bread
• Riversands Wines jams

Wine Pairing – this would go perfectly with a glass of sparkling wine, we recommend ourSparkling Sisters, a refreshing sparkling with rose petal aromas and strawberry and guava flavours.

Summer Pasta Salad

There’s nothing more refreshing on a hot day than a salad with fresh ingredients! Here’s what you will need for our favourite summer salad:

• Cooked spiral pasta
• Cherry tomatoes 
• Feta cheese
• A handful of rocket leaves
• Chickpeas 
• Pine nuts 
• Cucumber
• Fresh parsley and basil

Mix all together in a large bowl and add your favourite dressing to top it off! 

Wine pairing – We would recommend a light white wine such as ourBeardmore’s Dry Sauvignon Blanc, a fresh zingy dry white wine with lingering lemon, lime & citrus aromas and green apple flavours.

Caprese Sandwich

This sandwich is the perfect vegetarian friendly meal for your picnic! Stuffed with fresh basil and tomatoes, it's simple and delicious.

• Focaccia bread (any of your favourite breads will work!)
• Fresh mozzarella cheese 
• Large tasty tomatoes
• Fresh basil leaves 
• Rocket leaves

Place all your ingredients on your bread and season with salt and pepper for extra flavour. The great part about this recipe is that you can make it your own! Swap out any of the ingredients to your favourites and it will be just as yummy.

Wine Pairing – This would go beautifully with a dry white wine, we recommend ourAnchorage Chardonnay, a lightly oaked medium bodied dry white wine with citrus aromas, tropical fruit flavours and subtle vanilla sweetness.
